During recent decade, a trend has become evident in the practice of business-angel investing over the world to join capitals, or to provide so-called syndicate financing, or co-investing.

Joint investing features undeniable advantages, especially for the first-time investors to innovative companies at their early stages.
The key advantage of investments of that kind is significant decrease in risks which becomes feasible due to:

Increase in number of companies subject to investing, as a result of decrease in amounts of money invested in a single project with the fixed total amount of investment resources;
Consolidation of experience, business links and other co-investors’ assets;
Involvement of professional managers in the processes of selection, valuation, investing and innovative company management.

Three major categories of joint investing exist:

Private-public co-financing implies integration of privately-owned resources with state-owned resources of federal and regional levels. Financing may be provided either concurrently or sequentially. This enables reducing risks, and, accordingly, enhancing private investors’ motivation towards financing innovative companies at their early stages and subsequent control over their development. RUSSBA has signed an agreement with the Agency for innovative entrepreneurship development on cooperation in providing finance to innovative companies for their activities in patenting in Russia and/or abroad, completion of their research and development works, etc.
